A Southern California man is going to prison for posting "dead or alive" fliers that offered a $3,000 bounty for her daughter's African-American boyfriend, a registered sex offender, according to news reports.
A San Diego County judge sentenced 49-year-old Domingos Jose Oliveira to 7 years, 4 months in prison. He was arrested in March and convicted last month of solicitation of murder and a hate crime for putting up "wanted" posters at Grossmont College targeting 33-year-old Sean Kirk of El Cajon. The jury had deadlocked on a charge that Oliveira allegedly threatened his 20-year-old daughter.
The posters featured Kirk's name and photo and offered the cash bounty for his capture "dead or alive."
At Monday's sentencing, the prosecutor called Oliveira "a self-controlling father" who made his daughter sign a contract stipulating that if she dated a black man, both of them would be killed, 10News.com reports.
Oliveira showed no remorse and blamed others for the threats and bounty, the prosecutor told the judge.
Kirk is a convicted sex offender, which the posters highlighted. The prosecutor told the judge, however, that Oliveira did not know that when he began his threats. The prosecutor said Kirk is "still concerned about his safety."
