New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will not run for president, several news outlets reported on Tuesday.

The Associated Press has reported Christie will not run for the Republican nomination, citing "a person with direct knowledge of the decision."

Other news outlets have also confirmed Christie will take a pass on a White House bid.

Christie will hold a news conference at 1 p.m. ET today at his office in Trenton, according to a release from the governor's office.

While there is no subject listed for the news conference, Christie insiders said last week that he would likely make a decision as early as this week on whether he would launch a presidential bid.

A newly released Washington Post-ABC News poll showed only moderate enthusiasm for a Christie bid with 42% of the Republicans and Republican-leaning independents surveyed saying they would like to see him in the race. Thirty-four percent said they would prefer him to stay on the sidelines.
