GameTrailers TV and Spike to expand coverage of Electronic Entertainment Expo

Spike TV and GameTrailers TV are powering up their coverage of next month's Electronic Entertainment Expo, the video game industry's largest gathering in Los Angeles.

In addition to its E3 First Look special Friday, June 3, 1 a.m. ET/10 p.m. PT (Thursday, June 2), the network will broadcast Microsoft's press event June 6 at 12:30 p.m. ET/9:30 a.m. PT; coverage will also include live streaming on Facebook, mobile platforms such as iPhones and iPads, MTV.com, Spike.com, Xbox.com/E3 and on demand in HD on Xbox Live. Additional live coverage totaling more than 20 hours will include broadcasts from L.A. Live and at other E3 events in the city.

Game Hunters connected with GameTrailers TV's Geoff Keighley form more information about the coverage plans.

This is the widest coverage Spike and GameTrailers have done at E3, right?
Yes, this year Spike and GameTrailers will deliver over 20 hours of live coverage – the vast majority of it before the E3 show floor even opens. We will be covering E3 like CNN covers the election or ESPN covers the SuperBowl.

We're also simulcasting our coverage across multiple platforms and making it available globally to ensure every gamer gets an easy, all-access VIP pass to E3. If you want to see new content on all the big games coming out later this year, E3 on Spike and GameTrailers is where to set your dial.

What does this mean for video game lovers and fans of E3, who follow the action and announcements from afar?
E3 happens during the week, so it's important that gamers can experience it live even if they aren't at home in front of the TV. You'll be able to watch a lot of our coverage in HD on Spike TV, but we're also simulcasting everything live in HD online, and even on devices like iPhone or iPad and live on Facebook. The bottom line is that no matter where you are, you'll be able to follow our live coverage.

Spike will also be airing a number of exclusive game demos, world premieres, and big game announcements during E3 that won't be seen anywhere else. Similar to the Video Game Awards, we've been working with the major game publishers for the better part of six months to partner on some really special moments. Viewers will get the first taste of what we have planned with our GTTV E3 First Look special on Thursday, June 2.

Viewers will get live coverage of Microsoft's E3 event, right?
Yes, Spike will again be the exclusive broadcast partner for the Xbox 360 media briefing, which will air live , in HD and commercial free on Spike. The media briefing is going to include world premieres of Gears of War 3, the racing game Forza 4, a lot of talk about where Kinect is going in the future, especially for core gamers, and a ton of other big surprises. In the coming days we will also be announcing some additional plans and partners.

You will do your own intro and pre-game, so to speak, then the event feed will go, then any post-game remarks?
Exactly. One of the goals of our coverage is to make sure we put context around the press conference. We will be delivering expert analysis before and after the press conference, as well as including fans in the conversation via our social-media correspondent iJustine on Twitter and Facebook. Sometimes you need to explain the context for what's happening at a press conference. Think about Gabe Newell coming out at the PlayStation press conference last year to announce Portal 2 for PlayStation 3. It's only after you know the history of his negative comments about Sony that the moment makes sense to a mainstream viewer.

Talk about the "around town" coverage that is planned.
I'll be anchoring our coverage from a state-of-the-art studio at L.A. Live, which has been custom built to accommodate live game demos and interviews. But we're also heading around Los Angeles to cover live breaking news at six or seven other locations. E3 really takes over Los Angeles, and we want to make sure to bring gamers all the major news as it happens.

Readers, are you excited about getting addition E3 coverage from Spike and GameTrailers TV?
