Connecticut defeated Butler to claim the school's third national championship Monday night. But the Huskies were not a unanimous choice at No. 1 in the final USA TODAY/ESPN Top 25 Coaches' poll.

Northern Arizona coach Mike Adras, one of the 31 voters, selected Ohio State first and Kansas second ahead of the Huskies on his ballot.

"I voted for who I thought was the best team in the country based on the entire body of work during the season," Adras said. "I believe it is Ohio State. I want to congratulate Connecticut for winning the NCAA tournament. They deserved it."

The Buckeyes, who entered the tournament as the top overall seed, finished their season at 34-3 after loss to Kentucky in the Sweet 16. The Jayhawks were 35-3 and fell to Virginia Commonwealth in the Elite Eight.

Connecticut received all the other 30 first-place votes. Butler finished second in the final poll followed by Kentucky. The other Final Four participant Virginia Commonwealth was sixth. Both the Bulldogs and Rams were unranked in the poll before the tournament.

Under the rules of the poll, coaches are not required to vote the team that wins the NCAA tournament at No. 1. The ballots after the championship game are not made available to the public.

The vote by Adras is not unprecedented. One coach in the final USA TODAY football poll selected TCU No. 1 after Auburn beat Oregon in the BCS national championship game in January.

Utah coach Kyle Whittingham voted his team No. 1 after the Utes went unbeaten in 2008. Florida won the national championship that season.
