CBS voices concerns about Charlie Sheen

We're only two weeks into the New Year, and yet, Charlie Sheen is already having a, uh, memorable 2011. There are rumors of a wild weekend in Vegas and now an ear infection that caused him to miss a day of work on Two and a Half Men this week. This, in addition to the crazy night in New York last fall and the ongoing drama with his estranged wife Brooke Mueller. To put it mildly, there are some, uh, concerns from his home network.

USA TODAY's Gary Levin heard it straight from the network's mouth during a panel at the Television Critics Association Press Tour today.

"I personally have thought a lot about this," says CBS entertainment chief Nina Tassler. "We have a high level of concern; how could we not? On a basic human level, this man is a father, he has children he has family." (Sheen has two daughters with ex-wife Denise Richards, twin sons with Mueller and a 26-year-old daughter from a previous relationship).

That doesn't mean, however, that they will pull the plug on the sitcom, which pays Sheen more than $1 million per episode.

"Charlie is a professional, he comes to work, he does his job extremely -- well .... The show's a hit," says Tassler.
