Update at 4:30 p.m. -- President Obama did in fact attend today's basketball game between Howard University and Oregon State University, which is coached by brother-in-law Craig Robinson.
Oregon State won, 84-74.
From the pool report:
POTUS is wearing dark clothing and stood at attention with his hand over his heart for the National Anthem. He does not appear to be wearing a lip bandage ... POTUS acknowledged a well wisher who shouted from the stands. His entrance was otherwise low key.
Arena is maybe 20 percent full.
In attendance are FLOTUS (Michelle Obama), daughters (Malia and Sasha) and Marian Robinson (mother of Michelle and Craig).
Earlier post: With his newly stitched-up lip, we don't expect President Obama to be playing basketball today -- but it wouldn't surprise us if he watched a local basketball game.
The Oregon State University Beavers, coached by Obama brother-in-law Craig Robinson, are in the nation's capital today to play the Howard University Bison.
Do you suppose Robinson -- who is first lady Michelle Obama's brother -- is giving Obama a hard time about the elbow he took to the face in a pick-up basketball game yesterday, requiring 12 stitches to the president's lip?
Obama and family members attended an Oregon State game last year, when the Beavers played at George Washington University in D.C.
Not unlike his presidential brother-in-law, Robinson is looking at a pivotal year for his program. The former coach at Brown, Robinson went 32-36 in his first two seasons at Oregon State. The Beavers are 2-2 heading into tonight's game.
