The New York Rangers tied a team record Sunday by scoring twice in four seconds in the second period against the San Jose Sharks.

The second-period goals by Martin St. Louis and Rick Nash matched the Rangers’ 1991 effort by Kris King and James Patrick. But that second goal was scored in an empty net.

That wasn’t the case on Sunday.

St. Louis’ goal at 19:16 had to be reviewed to make sure it went in before the referee blew the whistle.

Nash scored at 19:20 on a miscue by Sharks goalie Alex Stalock.

The NHL record for fastest two goals by a team is three seconds by the 1935 St. Louis Eagles and the 2004 Minnesota Wild.
