The snazziest cruise line beach villa ever?

USATODAY
New two-story beach villas at Holland America's private island in the Bahamas, Half Moon Cay.

Holland America fans will notice something new and ritzy this year at the line's private island in the Bahamas: Two-story beach villas.

Billed as luxury hideaways, the five colorful, air-conditioned crash pads at the line's Half Moon Cay feature five-person hot tubs on their second levels as well as refrigerators, dining areas with table and chairs, misting showers and private sun decks. Occupants receive soft drinks, water and snacks such as fresh fruit and chips with salsa. Floating mats and snorkel gear also are included.

In short, it's everything you need for a day of fun in the sun, with just one major caveat: It doesn't come cheap.

Holland America is charging $549.95 for a single day's use of one of the villas -- a charge that includes access for up to eight people. And that's just for the basics. A "butler service upgrade" that brings unlimited beverages including liquor, a picnic lunch and butler service costs an additional $400 for up to eight people.

Groups with more than eight people booking a villa will pay an additional $45.95 for each additional person ($100 for those booking the butler service upgrade). The villas can hold up to 16 people.

The new villas are just one of several improvements recently unveiled at the island, which the line first developed 15 years ago. Among other additions is a new glass-bottom boat that carries 290 passengers on tours to view underewater reefs and sea life.
