Oscar winner wore RGIII socks to Academy Awards

And the Oscar went to ... a filmmaker wearing RGIII socks.

Sean Fine, a third-generation Washingtonian with deep ties to the Redskins, won an Oscar for best documentary short on Sunday. He and his wife, Andrea Nix Fine, directed Inocente, a film about the role of art in the journey of a 15-year-old homeless, undocumented immigrant.

While actresses were showing off Dior Haute Couture, Versace and Alexander McQueen, Sean was decked out in his finest Adidas. He wore Robert Griffin III's famed burgundy and gold striped socks to the ceremony and happily showed them off to reporters on the red carpet.

Fine's first tweet after accepting his award was to @RGIII.

"We just won an Oscar 'no pressure no diamonds.'"

RGIII responded with a simple, "Awesome. Lol."

As Dan Steinberg notes on the D.C. Sports Bog, Fine's grandfather, Nate, was a famed football photographer who worked for the Washington Redskins for 51 years. Up until his death in 1988, Nate Fine had coordinated film footage at every game since the franchise moved to Washington, with the exception of a 1944 exhibition when he was on his honeymoon. He took some of the most iconic photographs in the history of the franchise.

The team dedicated its 1988 Super Bowl victory to an ailing Fine. He died three months after the Redskins defeated the Broncos in Super Bowl XXII.
