Sixers head coach delivers amazing hamburger giveaway

Michael Katz, USA TODAY Sports
Doug Collins was happy with the 76ers' win, and happy to provide free hamburgers.

This is what the holidays are all about: Doug Collins buying hamburgers for everyone at Friday night's Philadelphia 76ers game. Allow me to explain with words and pictures.

At the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, every Sixers fan in attendance receives a free hamburger if the home team scores more than 100 points. On Friday night, the 76ers had possession of the ball with a 99-80 lead and 23.7 seconds to play.

But as Philadelphia inbounded the ball, you can see Doug Collins telling Evan Turner to slow it down and run out the clock.

Sportsmanship: Pass it on.

Evan Turner really wanted a chance to give the booing crowd those burgers but, as he pointed out, he was under strict orders not to.

Evan Turner really wants to get you that free hamburger, it's just that he can't, you know?

And you don't cross Doug Collins. Not even for free burgers.

Doug Collins is not messing around about these hamburgers.

The crowd reaction was summed up perfectly on the face of this kid.

The face of a kid who is not getting a free hamburger.

But wait! Fortunately, Doug Collins is an understanding teacher of the game, and life.

"It's OK," Doug Collins probably didn't say. "There will be hamburgers."

He made sure everyone got their hamburger fix anyway.

Good man, Doug Collins.

So Doug Collins was a good sport twice Friday night, spreading holiday cheer and hamburger grease without showing up an opponent to do so. Perhaps he understands the holidays best of all.

(Season's Greetings to The 700 Level for the tip.)
