Itsy bitsy spiders result in Kizashi auto recall

Suzuki is the latest auto brand to be caught in a web of intrigue when it comes to its Kizashi sport sedan.

Suzuki, which has stopped marketing cars in the U.S., is recalling 19,249 Kizashis to check for spiders and their webs in the evaporative canister vent line. It's the same problem that has confronted other makers, such as Mazda.

The webs can inhibit air flow into the gas tank, causing deformation of the tank and cracks. Fuel leakage can result, which could cause a fire, says Suzuki in a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about the problem.

The recall includes all 2010 to 2012 Kizashis, and some 2013 models. As of last October, Suzuki says it had received seven reports about the problem. If the line vent is found to be blocked, Suzuki will replace the fuel tank.
