Kevin Garnett ignores Ray Allen on the bench

Ray Allen probably wasn't expecting a friendly reunion with his former teammates on the Boston Celtics tonight.

As USA TODAY Sports' Jeff Zillgitt detailed, Allen hasn't spoken with Kevin Garnett, Rajon Rondo or Paul Pierce since joining the Miami Heat in the offseason. But is a little acknowledgement on opening night Tuesday too much to expect?

Apparently so.

Garnett ignores Allen entirely during the pregame, while Allen goes for a high-five. At least Allen wasn't left hanging, tapping someone else on the Celtics bench. A Garnett-savvy veteran knows to have a backup plan.

"That's just KG," Allen told TNT's Craig Sager with a smile in a postgame interview. "He probably didn't see me coming because his head's down all the time on the bench."

Hmm. You'd think the physical contact would alert Garnett that someone's trying to get his attention.

Garnett later explained his actions (or lack thereof) to The Boston Globe.

"You know what man, I was just trying to stay as neutral as I could but obviously I'm an intense person," he said. "Other than it was blank, I just saw the Heat uniforms and obviously he's on the other side and I just tried to play the game, man."

Understood, man.

But hey, if you're going to draw Garnett's ire, the silent treatment is better than some alternatives.
