Bart Scott: Jeering fans 'picked last in dodgeball all through high school'

New York Jets linebacker Bart Scott reacts after making a tackle in his team's 49-19 loss to the New England Patriots on Thanksgiving night.

Any New York Jets fan who heckles the team's players during this Sunday's game vs. Arizona may end up with an unexpected, angry visitor in his workplace sometime in the very near future.

Linebacker Bart Scott was asked by the New York Daily News about the merciless jeers coming from the high-priced Coaches Club seats as the team went into halftime during last Thursday's disastrous 49-19 loss to New England. The website Deadspin released a video of the taunts on Tuesday (some of which aren't safe for delicate ears).

"Those are the ones who feel more entitled," Scott told the paper. "I would love to go to his job and see what he does and sit in his ear and talk stuff."

I would love to see this as well. It would be like those old Reebok office linebacker commercials, just with a lot more cursing, missed tackles and blown coverages. Hopefully he would also follow the hecklers to their office rec leagues, with Scott standing around reminding them of their past athletic failings. Well, more than he already has.

"At the end of the day, if you made it to be able to put an NFL uniform on, then you are one of the best athletes in the world," Scott told the Daily News. "The person yelling at you probably was picked last in dodgeball all through high school. So do you care about the opinion of them? No."

Bart Scott's perception of Jets fans is quickly deteriorating.

Scott, who has never been one to censor his opinions, is likely nearing the end of his Jets career and clearly couldn't care less about angering a fan base that already has enough reasons to be furious. And after watching that video, it's kind of amazing that the members of the team were actually able to walk into the locker room without reacting to the vitriol. It's hard to believe that more players don't end up going into full "Ron Artest in Detroit" mode.

Maybe Scott should have just implemented another of his half-hearted media boycotts instead of ranting about the people who pay many thousands of dollars so that he and his teammates can make millions. But when you combine the raving lunatics seen on the video and even the news that the team's most vocal fan "resigned" because he thinks the people sitting around him are jerks, it's easy to understand why Scott might have the reaction he did.
