Fan builds $20,000 replica of Giants Stadium in his garage

Chris Strauss, USA TODAY Sports
Lifelong New York Giants fan Don Martini created a 20 foot by 17 foot replica of old Giants Stadium in his Blairstown, New Jersey garage.

The only thing missing is a miniature Jimmy Hoffa in the end zone.

It took Giants fan Don Martini two years to build a stadium in his Blairstown, New Jersey garage. Not just any stadium, but an incredibly detailed replica of Giants Stadium, which was demolished in 2010.

As the Star-Ledger detailed, the 75-year-old grandfather spent nearly $20,000 and an average of eight hours per day to create a massive model of the former Meadowlands landmark, complete with scale seats, fighter jets and even tiny Gatorade jugs. The gallery here shows just how detailed Martini was able to get.

Here's how Martini's model compares to the real thing.

Time of construction: The original Giants Stadium took almost four years to complete, breaking ground in November 1972 and opening in October 1976. Martini took two years to build his model.

Capacity: The original stadium had just over 80,000 seats. Martini's has 65,000 individual red and blue seats. ""I know, there should be 80,000," he told the paper. "But there's only so much room inside."

Dimensions: The original stadium was 756 feet (length) by 592 feet (width). Martini's is 20 feet (length) by 17 feet (width).

Video Boards: Giants Stadium had two color scoreboards, each measuring 32 x 24 feet. Martini has two mini TV's on his, with one playing Super Bowl XLII on an endless loop and the other showing the NFC Championship game from 2007.
