The White House's six best sports photos of 2012

Rubie Edmondson, USA TODAY Sports
Obama hoops it up during the annual White House Easter Egg Roll on April 9.

He's one of the most athletic commander-in-chiefs of all time, so it's no surprise that photographers frequently capture President Obama tossing around a football or taking in a basketball game (courtside, of course). Official White House photographer Pete Souza recently shared an album of his favorite shots of 2012, many of which showcase the POTUS and his family's love of sports. Check out some of our favorites below:

1. POTUS and FLOTUS are caught on the Kiss Cam and forced into that dreaded public smooch, to the amusement of Malia and Joe Biden. Presidents: they're just like us!

The President and First Lady smooch as they are captured on the Kiss Cam.

2. Just a casual game of basketball with Don Cheadle, Tobey Maguire, and George Clooney...

After some early morning basketball in Los Angeles, the President talks with the players.

3. POTUS gets a kick out of throwing a football on his hometown's Soldier Field back in May, surely with boundless optimism for the Chicago Bears' season ahead. Sadly, we now know how that one turned out.

"'How cool is this,' the President said after he threw a football at Soldier Field following the NATO working dinner in Chicago.

4. How to make a photo go viral in one easy step: Pick up the President or First Lady!

U.S. Olympic wrestler Elena Pirozhkova literally picked up the First Lady.

5. Part of being President is pretending to care about European soccer with leaders at the G8 summit.

At Camp David for the G8 Summit, European leaders took a break to watch the overtime shootout of the Chelsea vs. Bayern Munich Champions League final.

6. And with this, "McKayla is Unimpressed" became the greatest sports meme of all time.

The President suggested to McKayla Maroney that they recreate her 'not impressed' photograph.

One bonus shot: We're not sure if potato sack races fall under "sports," but this photo of FLOTUS out-hopping Jimmy Fallon was too great to resist.

The rest of the album contains plenty of gems (Bo in bunny ears, the President getting caught in a miniature Spiderman's web), and you can check it out on the White House Flickr page.
