Davis, Calif., was voted the USA's top cycling town in 10Best's Readers' Choice contest.

Davis, California is not like other American cities: 22% of residents commute on bikes and a whopping 95% of the city's streets have bike paths. So is it any wonder that Davis took top honors in our recent 10Best Readers' Choice contest for Best Cycling Town? During the contest's four-week run, pedal-pushing enthusiasts across the country voted for their favorite town in which to bike, and Davis came out on top.

Fort Collins, Colorado took a solid second place, with its 310 miles of trails, and lots of opportunity for mountain bike enthusiasts. The city even has a bike-in cinema series, which helped it score big with voters.

Champion cyclist George Hincapie, who's based in #5 finisher Greenville, South Carolina, lent his expertise to the contest by selecting the original 20 nominees.

The top 10 winners in the 'Best U.S. Cycling Town' contest category for 10Best Readers' Choice are as follows:

  1. Davis, Calif.
  2. Fort Collins, Colo.
  3. Minneapolis
  4. Madison, Wis.
  5. Greenville, S.C.
  6. Chattanooga, Tenn.
  7. Tucson
  8. Durango, Colo.
  9. Sacramento
  10. Bend, Ore.

Congratulations to all the winners! Hincapie's original 20 nominees also included Ann Arbor, Mich.; Asheville, N.C.; Austin; Boulder, Colo.; Gainesville, Fla.; Malibu, Calif.; Moab, Utah; Park City, Utah; Seattle; and Portland, Ore.

There are many other cycle-friendly cities across the USA which simply couldn't fit on our list of 20 nominees. These include League of American Bicyclists gold medal cities Eugene, Ashland and Corvallis, Oregon; Crested Butte and Steamboat Springs, Colorado; Cambridge, Mass; Jackson, Wyoming; Missoula, Montana; Palo Alto and San Francisco, California; Scottsdale, Arizona; and several other silver and bronze designated cities.

Pedal on, America!
