A view of Downtown Atlanta at night. An Eventbrite study found the city has the most event-going people.

Which city has the most people who like to go to parties, concerts and seminars?

It's not New York or Los Angeles, two of America's largest cities with bustling restaurant and entertainment scenes.

It's Atlanta.

Eventbrite, which organizers use to sell tickets to events such as concerts and classes, today released its list of "America's Most Carpe Diem Cities," the places where people seem to be making the most out of life.

Eventbrite analyzed thousands of the events it helps people organize to rank America's largest 50 cities with the most "Carpe Diem" residents. They studied the number of events — including parties, classes, seminars, music festivals, and more — that people are attending per capita. They also looked at the amount of money people are spending on events per capita and the amount of physical activity the city's residents engage in. The company stepped back and looked at the types of events happening in each city to get a sense of the town's vibe.

"We recognized event-goers embody what it means to 'Carpe Diem' — they are socially engaged individuals who relish in experiencing and living engaged and active lives in their cities," says Julia Hartz, co-founder of Eventbrite.

Atlanta, a city of 443,775, had the highest levels of event-going people relative to its population than any other city.

Washington, with a population of 632,323, was second. San Francisco, population 825,863, rounded out the top three.

Eventbrite also surveyed more than 2,000 of its event attendees to gauge their attitudes about going out. Some findings:

  • 47% of respondents who reported living life to the fullest most days of the week go out two to three times a week to different events.
  • 81% of event-goers said they were at least somewhat more adventurous than the average person.
  • 96% said they like to expose themselves to new experiences such as food and travel.

The complete list of 10 most "Carpe Diem" cities:

  1. Atlanta
  2. Washington, D.C.
  3. San Francisco
  4. Austin
  5. Seattle
  6. Portland, Ore.
  7. Minneapolis
  8. Boston
  9. Las Vegas
  10. Denver

And what of America's largest cities?

New York came in at number 20, while Los Angeles ranked 25.
