The New Orleans Pelicans have the silliest and most delicious new arena sponsor

Just ahead of All-Star Weekend, the New Orleans Pelicans announced a deal with Smoothie King for sponsorship and naming rights of the building formerly known as New Orleans Arena. There is now a professional basketball arena called the “Smoothie King Center.”

As easy as it is to laugh at the name, though, the fact that there will be two Smoothie King stands opening inside the arena is a huge win for Pelicans fans. And it certainly helps the team’s chances at signing Milwaukee Bucks rookie Giannis Antetokounmpo in free agency in a few years:

Corporate arena sponsorships will always be polarizing to fans, but there’s no downside to this one. It makes the Pelicans’ arena name hilarious (as opposed to sad, like the Sacramento Kings’ Sleep Train Arena or the Portland Trail Blazers’ Moda Center) and ensures that fans will get plenty of delicious smoothies.
