StudioA: Meet indie folk-rock band Lord Huron

  • Lord Huron started as the solo project of Ben Schneider
  • His inspiration comes from outdoor landscapes

Who is he? Lord Huron's real name is Ben Schneider, a Michigan native whose hypnotic, lush soundscapes of indie folk rock stem from his love of the outdoors.

Changing landscapes: After years of searching for his artistic identity, Schneider took a breather from life in Los Angeles to return home for a visit in 2010. While sitting on the shore of his beloved Lake Huron, where he and his father, a newspaper journalist, often spent summer nights, he found his answers right in front of him.

No longer solo: Since 2010, Schneider has collected four band members -- Mark Barry (drums), Miguel Briseno (bass), Brett Farkas (guitar) and Tom Renaud (guitar). Barry and Renaud are both childhood friends. The band has been touring steadily with stops at South by Southwest, Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo and Outside Lands, promoting their album, Lonesome Dreams.

Lively shows: Although the album's indie folk-rock leans more toward the folk than the rock, Lord Huron has been generating buzz for rousing performances a la Mumford and Sons.
