Katherine Webb is an Auburn graduate, but when she attends the Iron Bowl at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday will be her first. And, of course, she’ll be cheering for Alabama.

As anyone who hasn’t been living under a rock for the past 11 months knows, the former Miss Alabama USA is dating Crimson Tide quarterback AJ McCarron. With a potential undefeated season on the line for top-ranked Alabama (11-0), there’s plenty to be worried about.

“This is the first actual game, Iron Bowl, that I will be attending,” she told USA TODAY Sports last week. “I don’t know what to expect and I’m really nervous.”

Really, the first Iron Bowl? Yes, says Webb, who graduated from the school in 2011.

“I didn’t get to go to the Iron Bowl whenever I was in school because I ended up having to sell my student ticket because I was running low on cash,” she says.

With one of the most storied rivalries in the game, the Iron Bowl has more than bragging rights on the line this year. Auburn (10-1) is No. 5 in the USA TODAY Coaches’ Poll after a turnaround season under first-year coach Gus Malzahn.

The winner of Saturday’s game will play for the SEC Championship in Atlanta.

“Honestly, I don’t know what to expect,” says Webb. “AJ just in his protective nature, we talked about it (Wednesday) night. And he was like, ‘I’m concerned. I don’t know what the fans are gonna do.’ And I’m like, ‘It’s OK. I’ll be sweet, genuine and nice like I always am if anything were to happen.’

“Even in my experience at Auburn, it’s been very, very rare to see fans that have been rude or anything like that.”

That leaves the outcome as Webb’s cause for concern. McCarron is poised to wrap up one of the best careers by any quarterback in college football. He is 36-2 as a starter, becoming Alabama’s winningest quarterback last weekend.

He already has three national championship rings – one Alabama won during his redshirt freshman year in 2009 and two from the Crimson Tide’s back-to-back titles in 2011 and 2012.

“I’m not nervous about the fans,” says Webb. “Of course I want to see AJ have that fourth championship ring, so I really want them to do well. That’s what I’m nervous about. I’m not nervous about his talent or abilities as a player. Of course, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous about the outcome.”

Axon sits down with McCarron to discuss the Alabama-Auburn rivalry later this week on USA TODAY Sports.
