Oklahoma softball pitcher knocks over Royals catcher while warming up for first pitch

Oklahoma won the Women’s College World Series earlier this month, and Paige Parker’s pitching was one of the Sooners’ keys to victory. Last week, she got to show off her pitching skills when throwing the first pitch for the Kansas City Royals.

Kansas City’s Drew Butera caught her warm-up pitches, and as the video shows, he wasn’t quite ready for her speed at first.

According to Sooner Sports, she just warmed up at first, but the Royals players wanted to see more of her pitches.

“Some of their reactions were really cool, so that’s something I won’t ever forget,” she said. “They were pretty shocked about how much my ball moved. I think they were especially fascinated by my rise ball because they never see that. They had some pretty funny reactions. Drew had a hard time catching some of my rise balls, which was pretty funny.”

Parker is from Independence, Mo., which is not far from Kaufman Stadium, where the Royals play. Clearly, getting to throw out the first pitch there was special to her.

She finished her junior season with Oklahoma with an ERA of 1.43 and 262 strikeouts in 210.1 innings.
