Polarizing former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick this week is going to get his first face-to-face meeting with a team since becoming a free agent in February, according to a report from NFL Media. He’s traveling from New York to meet with the Seattle Seahawks.

The Seahawks, and a chance to back up Russell Wilson, make sense for Kaepernick on a few fronts. He fits their offense that relies heavily on zone-read concepts requiring mobility from quarterbacks. He would also play opposite a strong defense as he did during his best seasons with San Francisco.

Kaepernick’s also a fit outside the lines. No team was more outspoken in their support of Kaepernick’s national anthem protest than Seattle’s Michael Bennett and Doug Baldwin.

The Seahawks in response to Kaepernick’s decision to kneel during the anthem decided to link arms as a team to signal solidarity. Kaepernick’s camp has let it be known that he’ll stand for the anthem in 2017.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll recently admitted to looking at a number of options at quarterback to be Wilson’s understudy, including Kaepernick and former second-overall pick Robert Griffin III. Seattle’s reserve quarterbacks are Treyvone Boykin and Jake Heaps.

Boykin was arrested earlier this offseason for alleged violation of parole stemming from a 2015 arrest for marijuana possession and public intoxication.

The 49ers brought in four new quarterbacks under new coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch: Brian Hoyer, Matt Barkley, C.J. Beathard and Nick Mullens.

Update: Kaepernick will be joined by Austin Davis in working out for the Seahawks, per NFL Media.
