Do the 49ers have throwback uniforms coming in 2018?

Our friends at Niners Nation reported this week the 49ers will introduce new alternate uniforms for the upcoming season.

The details are a bit fuzzy, but scuttlebutt has been these uniforms will be throwbacks and could replace the team’s all-black uniforms they introduced in 2015. The team is expected to announce their new duds at the state of the franchise event next Wednesday.

It would make sense given the 49ers have a “Faithful then, Faithful now” campaign they’re sticking with for the coming season, with signs adorning Levi’s Stadium featuring some of the team’s legends opposite some current players. Throwback uniforms for the current squad could be another way for the team to honor its past.

It’s worth noting one of the biggest signs on the front of Levi’s Stadium pictures Jerry Rice and Steve Young wearing the 75th anniversary throwback uniforms the team wore when it last won a Super Bowl during the 1994 season. Connecting the dots would indicate that’s the direction San Francisco is going with alternates they could wear up to twice a year.

Given the 49ers’ current uniforms aren’t all that different from the iterations they wore in the 80s and early 90s, it’s fair to guess the team’s new alternates would include those three-dimensional numbers, white pants and red and black stripes from when they beat the Chargers in Super Bowl XXIX.

We’ll know next Wednesday when the team makes the announcement. Our guess: A throwback Jimmy Garoppolo jersey would do pretty well in the team store.
