If you know anything about the food scene in Louisville, Ky., you’ve likely heard about burgoo, Benedictine and bourbon, the latter best enjoyed in the city’s signature cocktail, the Mint Julep. But these days, dining and drinking in the Gateway to the South means much more.

Old favorites with serious history to their name make the 40 flavors list, as do restaurants with a modern flair, eye-opening coffee houses and some great places to grab a cocktail. With nicknames like NuLu and SoFo, the city’s diverse neighborhoods offer plenty of culinary delights.

Never forget the bourbon, though. Kentucky is the home of the caramel-colored elixir, and one-third of the world’s bourbon is made in Louisville. Stops along the Urban Bourbon Trail boast dozens upon dozens of bourbon brands, and Whiskey Row downtown keeps growing in distilleries and tasting houses.

Take a tasty tour of Louisville in the sampling above, featuring some of the best places to eat and drink in the city.
