Browns considering Mitchell Trubisky in NFL draft is great for 49ers

The Browns are seriously considering drafting quarterback Mitchell Trubisky in the first round and might be looking to trade up from their No. 12 pick to do so, according to multiple reports.

Mike Silver of NFL Network reported the Browns have had conversations with three teams about moving up. The 49ers aren’t known to be one of those teams, but it’s a possibility given general manager John Lynch admitted to having conversations with teams about potentially trading back.

Ultimately the Browns would be doing the 49ers – or any team that doesn’t think highly of the quarterbacks atop this draft class – a huge favor. Potentially reaching for a signal caller early would push a slew of prospects down the board.

The 49ers would be wise to trade back given the lack of a sure-fire second-best prospect in this class. Perhaps getting a future first-round pick (and more, like the first pick in Round 2 and a selection in Round 3) by moving back to 12 would be the best course of action with so many areas of need.

There’s a small chance the Browns might just use their first-overall pick on Trubisky rather than taking Myles Garrett. That would be the best-case scenario for the 49ers, who could land the generational pass rusher or flip the pick in a trade for a massive haul.

Or the Browns could be throwing everyone off their scent and trying to drum up trade interest by leaking things to the media. We’ll find out on Thursday.
