Jerry Reese says Giants may trade up in 2017 NFL Draft

With general manager Jerry Reese at the helm, the New York Giants have never before traded up in the first round of NFL Draft. However, later this April, that may finally change.

While meeting with reporters on Thursday, Reese said the Giants will once again be looking for the best player available, but would absolutely entertain a potential trade up if they felt they could land a desired prospect.

“Like I say every year, we go into the NFL Draft looking to get the best available players,” Reese told reporters during his pre-draft press conference. “If there’s somebody out there that we love and we can move up, we’ll explore those options.”

Of course, there is the immense cost of a potential trade up, and that’s something Reese admits he’s wary of. He feels any potential deal would have to come at a fair cost because the team simply “won’t reach” for anyone.

As far as what position the Giants may target, Reese was characteristically vague. However, he did point out that the team scouted more quarterbacks this year than they’re accustomed to.

“I probably looked at more quarterbacks this time than other times,” Reese noted.

Whether or not the Giants draft a quarterback or do pull the trigger on a trade up remains to be seen, but it’s interesting to hear those words come from the mouth of Jerry Reese. He rarely offers deep draft insight, so this is a nice speculative treat for Big Blue fans.
