Sen. Ron Wyden: If I get 18M retweets, will Trump release returns?

The Senate Finance Committee's ranking member Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore.

President Trump's refusal to release his tax returns has continued to be a sticking point among his critics.

So Sen. Ron Wyden put forth an idea on Twitter: will the president release his tax returns if Wyden can get 18 million retweets?

It's a play off the viral campaign for Carter Wilkinson, a 16-year-old teen from Reno, Nev., to get free chicken nuggets from Wendy's for a year.

While Wyden may have meant his tweet in jest, he takes the release of Trump's tax returns seriously. Per his office, the Oregon Democrat introduced legislation that would require sitting presidents and presidential nominees to release their tax returns from the past three years.

Additionally, as the top Democrat on the Senate Finance Committee, he has urged chairman Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, to allow the committee to review the president's returns.

Expect Wyden to participate in Saturday's Tax Day March.

Trump is the first president to refuse to publicly release his returns in decades, and he says he won't do so while they're under audit.
