A Dr. Seuss-themed water park is in the works for Carnival Cruise Line's next ship, Carnival Horizon.

Cruise giant Carnival's next ship will feature a Dr. Seuss-themed water park — a first for the line.

The sprawling fun zone planned for the 3,934-passenger Carnival Horizon will include a twisting, 450-foot-long water slide themed around the classic Dr. Seuss book The Cat in the Hat, Carnival announced on Thursday. There also will be a polka dot-decorated water slide called Fun Things that boasts special lighting effects. The latter attraction is named after the mischievous The Cat in the Hat characters Thing 1 and Thing 2.

To be named Dr. Seuss WaterWorks, Horizon's water park area also will have a 150-gallon tipping bucket patterned after the hat in The Cat in the Hat and a kiddie splash zone with dozens of water spray toys.

Currently under construction at a shipyard in Italy, Horizon is scheduled to debut in April 2018 with a series of voyages in Europe. It'll then move to New York City for the summer of 2018 to offer sailings to Bermuda and the Caribbean. It'll reposition again in the fall to Miami.

In addition to a Dr Seuss-themed water park, Horizon will feature a Dr. Seuss-themed family reading and play venue as well as Dr. Seuss-themed on-board activities such as The Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast with The Cat in the Hat and Friends and the Seuss-a-palooza Parade and Story Time.

Giant new Carnival ship to sail from New York

Horizon will be a sister to the one-year-old Carnival Vista, Carnival's first new ship since 2012 and its largest ever.

Like Vista, Horizon will feature an 800-foot-long peddle ride around its top deck and an IMAX Theater — both of which were firsts for the industry when they debuted on Vista. In addition, Horizon will feature several dining and bar concepts that are unique to the ship.

Horizon will debut in Europe on April 2, 2018 with a maiden voyage out of Barcelona. The 13-night Mediterranean sailing will feature calls at Livorno, Civitavecchia (near Rome), Naples, Messina and Cagliari, Italy; Dubrovnik, Croatia; Corfu, Greece; and Valletta, Malta.

The ship will operate three more Mediterranean sailings out of Barcelona before re-positions across the Atlantic to New York.
