Raiders land elite CB, RB 'in mold' of Beast Mode in Mel Kiper's latest mock

In ESPN NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr.’s latest mock draft, he looks to fill imperative holes on the defensive side of the ball for the Oakland Raiders while also drafting a running back “in the mold” of retired Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch.

Here is a look at Kiper’s three selections (with no trades) for the Raiders in the 2017 NFL draft April 27-29.

Round 1 (24) Tre’Davious White, CB, LSU

After declaring that the Raiders’ defense was just “a couple pieces away from being Super Bowl caliber,” Kiper plays it safe in selecting former LSU cornerback Tre’Davious White.

Early on in the mock-draft season most analysts pegged White to Oakland at No. 24 due to his perfectly-matched skill set for Oakland’s needs. White played all 12 games for his team in 2016, half of which he started at the nickel cornerback position and the other half at right cornerback, per NFL draft guru Nolan Nawrocki.

White posted 35 tackles, 14 passes defensed, two interceptions, four tackles for loss and one-half sack in 2016. At just over 5-foot-11 and 192 pounds, White is explosive, registering a 4.49 second 40-yard dash at the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine to go along with his superb coverage and ball skills.
