Why Xavier hired Bill Murray's son Luke Murray as a coach

SAN JOSE — So how is it that Luke Murray, son of comedian Bill Murray, landed at Xavier as an assistant basketball coach in time for the Musketeers’ run to the Elite Eight?

Rodney Dangerfield as Al Czervik in a scene from "Caddyshack."

Xavier head coach Chris Mack, who hired Luke Murray two years ago, noted Murray’s ties to Xavier through recruiting, Murray’s ability to connect with players and, oh, and one other thing.

“And I think he's really grown into being a terrific assistant coach with Xs and Os, not to mention I love the movie Caddyshack," Mack said. “No, I really do. It's hell of a movie if you haven't seen it.”

The star of the movie, of course, is Bill Murray.
