Cara Delevingne's punch made a guy bleed shooting 'Valerian'

LAS VEGAS — If you weren't sure that Cara Delevingne could kill, look no further than CinemaCon for proof.

The model/actress was positively lethal in Vegas, both with her space-age apparel and her stories from the set of the upcoming Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (out July 21).

During the national convention of theater owners, Delevingne even acknowledged that she drew blood from a stuntman during a battle scene — blood from one of her own blows.

"I did," Delevingne tells USA TODAY after coming off the festival stage. "There was one take where, you know, you're acting and you’re into it. And I just clipped him accidentally. There was blood on the armor. I felt very, very bad. But he carried on amazingly.

"No stuntmen were hurt in the making the movie," she adds.

Luc Besson, left, director of 'Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets,' arrives onstage with Cara Delevingne at CinemaCon.

Delevingne, 24, says she trained hard to play special operative Laureline alongside Valerian (Dane DeHaan). The two are protecting the futuristic world of Alpha in the film adaptation of the sci-fi classic, which inspired such films as Star Wars and Guardians of the Galaxy. Director Luc Besson describes the character as the "first woman superhero really kicking (butt)."

She was up for the task in the fighting scenes: "I did kickboxing ... Whatever Valerian needs to do to get out of a situation, she does. She masters every style."

As for the sci-fi Thierry Mugler outfit she wore, matching her Jimmy Choo four-inch heels (which made walking the stage a precarious situation), Delevingne gave props to Besson, who has directed stylistic classic movies such as The Fifth Element.

"Luc's style is always impeccable," she says.

Her hair? That's just the look she's rocking right now before she cuts it all off for her next role in Life in a Year, where she'll play a dying young woman alongside Jaden Smith.

"I have to shave my head for my next part, so I have to do something different. So I dyed it. Just for fun. Just to change it up," says Delevingne.
