Women finally catch up to men's 2016 pay on Equal Pay Day

Tuesday marks Equal Pay Day, the symbolic date when working women's pay catches up to men's from the prior year. To call attention to the gender pay gap, Lean In's Sheryl Sandberg is pushing the #20PercentCounts retail campaign today. If a woman makes 20% less than a man, the reasoning goes, she should pay 20% less for her purchases. Three hundred businesses in 25 cities will offer 20% discounts or special offers.Sandberg writes in USA TODAY: "The gender pay gap exists not because women aren’t educated enough or ambitious enough or hardworking enough. It’s about structural barriers we need to dismantle."

Party rolls along in Chapel Hill after UNC cuts down the nets

Though "One Shining Moment" signaled the official end of the college hoops season, North Carolina fans will still be on cloud nine Tuesday after the Tar Heels defeated Gonzaga in the NCAA national championship game. The title — North Carolina's third since 2005 and No. 6 overall — erased last year's heartbreak to Villanova and gives coach Roy Williams one more championship than his mentor, the late UNC legend Dean Smith. Though it had the makings of a wildly entertaining finish, many will remember how the referees grounded the game's flow to a grinding halt — much to the dismay of every NBA star on Twitter. If you want a leg up on next year's March Madness pool, USA TODAY Sports has a way-too-early look at next season's top 25 teams.

Rape survivor launches 'Set the Expectation' pledge

The sexual violence victim who was gang-raped by four men, including two Oregon State football players in 1998, is launching a new campaign Tuesday that looks to shed light on consent, sexualassault and domestic violence. Brenda Tracy, who battled suicidal thoughts and depression after the ordeal, hopes her “Set the Expectation” pledge will help educate male college and high school athletes about sexual violence. The initiative comes a year after several watershed moments sparked conversations about sexual assault across the U.S.

Scottish leader talks independence from UK in USA

Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will address Stanford University on Tuesday to discuss issues related to Scottish independence from the United Kingdom.  The speech comes less than a week after the United Kingdom invoked Article 50 to leave the European Union, formally beginning the British exit process. Sturgeon has been a staunch opponent of Brexit, and she wrote a letter last week to British Prime Minister Theresa May to formally request a second Scottish independence referendum. During her U.S. trip, Sturgeon signed a joint agreement with California governor Jerry Brown on climate change, but has no meetings scheduled with President Trump.
