Bracket Madness: America's best craft beer brewery Round of Eight

There probably is not really a Cinderella in this field. All of these breweries are widely acknowledged as being elite.

But given The Alchemist’s back story — which you can read in depth here — you have to feel good about them making a run in what has become our dankest region, Tap Station 4. (By the way, Wicked Weed’s website has an amazing tool to help you sort out which of their beers you might like, allowing you to sort by how hoppy, bitter, tart, fruity or funky you prefer your brews. It’s worth a look. )

Avery’s push into the Elite Eight against Ballast Point is also interesting. The family-owned operation isn’t flashy, but I’m not sure there’s a brewery out there with a better, more interesting year-round lineup. Their seasonal beers — a summer peach saison, a chai ale for fall — are also distinctive but eminently drinkable.

Few surprises so far on the left side of the bracket, though Cigar City did get past Bell’s, whose Two Hearted was voted best individual beer in this contest last year.
