We’re down to eight in our search for the greatest college basketball team of all-time, and one school is dominating this bracket. John Wooden’s UCLA teams account for nearly half of the remaining field and could very well make up 75% of the Final Four.
In the East region, The 1971-72 Bruins team, led by Bill Walton, takes on a loaded Duke squad featuring Christian Laettner, Grant Hill and Bobby Hurley.
In the Midwest, Kareem’s UCLA team goes up against the last college basketball team to finish a season undefeated, Bobby Knight’s 1976 Indiana Hoosiers.
The South region features a national championship rematch of sorts. Michael Jordan’s North Carolina takes on the team it beat in the title game, only the next season’s version. The “cinderella” seventh-seeded Georgetown team led by Patrick Ewing pulled off two consecutive upsets to make it to this point.
And, finally, in the West we have a battle for Los Angeles’ heart, as ’72-’73 UCLA takes on Magic Johnson and his Spartans. Will L.A. side with the hometown team or one of the greatest Lakers ever?
