'New Girl' finally reveals Schmidt's surprising first name after six seasons

Schmidt. A name so fitting for the New Girl character with a peculiar way of saying "chutney" that one might forget his first name has been withheld for six seasons. Perhaps we were too distracted by Max Greenfield's skillful delivery of Schmidt's fast-moving dialogue to obsess over the missing moniker. Either way, the mystery has been solved and we did not see this one coming.

Show creator Elizabeth Meriwether announced Tuesday afternoon on Twitter that viewers would find out Schmidt's first name — a fact that had even Ben Falcone, who has appeared on the Fox series, guessing.

Falcone's guess of "Mervyn" was not the name that Schmidt would use to erect his legacy, despite Winston Bishop's (Lamorne Morris) warning that it was "a very bad idea."

"I have no choice," Schmidt reasoned in the clip below. "When I was born my parents gave me a name."

"Don't do this, Schmidt,"  Ferguson's dad requested. "There ain't nothing but pain down that road."

What was Winston talking about? What was the reason behind his protest? As it turns out, Winston is Schmidt's name too. Winston Saint-Marie Schmidt to be specific.
