Cara Delevingne and Dane DeHaan save the universe in 'Valerian' trailer

Masters of their universe: Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne.

Flash Gordon? Nah, it's Cara Delevingne and Dane DeHaan, who are going to save every one of us.

In Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (in theaters July 21), the two actors star as cosmic operatives Laureline and Valerian, who regularly scoot around in neat spaceships and go undercover in casual wear to snag important loot without getting eaten by galactic beasts. Their newest mission is a doozy, though: They have less than 10 hours to eliminate an unknown threat and save Alpha, an idyllic city housing 1,000 planets and alien species who've always been cool with each other. Hanging in the balance? Peace, prosperity and their posteriors, since the whole galaxy comes after the heroic twosome.

The new Valerian trailer gives a dizzying glimpse at director Luc Besson's vast colorful universe full of weirdly cool aliens, creatures that range from endlessly cute to intimidatingly toothy, a rock 'n' roll attitude à la Guardians of the Galaxy, and trippy visuals similar to Besson's wondrous The Fifth Element. That movie gave us a scene-stealing Chris Tucker as wonderfully coiffed radio host Ruby Rhod a decade ago, and one can imagine Rihanna similarly taking over Valerian when she shows up as a shapeshifting burlesque performer.

Oh, and Delevingne's kickboxing lessons have been paying off because your girl's got some action-flick moves.

"There was one take where, you know, you're acting and you’re into it. And I just clipped him accidentally," Delevingne told USA TODAY while promoting the film at CinemaCon, noting a particularly rough scene with a stuntman. "There was blood on the armor. I felt very, very bad. But he carried on amazingly."
