Cardinals No. 1 defense shredded by top-scoring Falcons offense

The question has been answered. Who would do better, the Cardinals defense or the Falcons offense? The answer is clear — Atlanta’s high-powered offense.

Entering Week 12, the Cardinals had the number one total defense, number one passing defense and allowed the fewest points to opposing offenses.

However, as pointed out earlier in the week, that ranking was perhaps deceiving. Of their first 10 games, four of them came against the three worst offenses in the league: the San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Rams and Minnesota Vikings. A fifth game was against the New York Jets, a team in the bottom 10 of the league.

They had not faced a top-10 offense until Atlanta.

What happened?

Matt Ryan threw for 269 yards and two touchdowns. The Falcons rushed for three more touchdowns and rushed for 116 yards.

The Cardinals gave up 38 points after only giving up 162 offensive points in 10 games.

Arizona faces two more top-three offenses, the Redskins and Saints, in the next three weeks. If Sunday was any indication of what will come, Arizona’s offense will need to pick up the slack and score more.
