The hottest men on the Oscars red carpet ditched boring black for blue tuxes

Justin Kirkland
Special to USA TODAY

The Oscars may be a black-tie soiree, but that didn’t stop Hollywood’s leading men from switching out the black blazer for something a bit more exciting.

On the red carpet, it was clear that a pop of blue was a trend that suited more than just a few gentlemen. From velvet blazers to bright blue suits, blue really is the warmest color.

Some of our favorites:

Viggo Mortensen

Viggo Mortensen, looking dapper.

The Captain Fantastic actor was smashing in Dior.

Chris Evans

Chris Evans shaking things up.

One of the night's many presenters, Evans stood out in a blue Salvatore Ferragamo tux with black trim.

Samuel L Jackson

Samuel L. Jackson presents the award for Best Original score during the 89th Academy Awards.

Not be outdone, Jackson added some shimmer to his two-toned jacket.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

Dwayne Johnson introduces Lin Manuel Miranda and Auli'i Cravalho as they perform 'How Far I'll Go' from 'Moana' during the 89th Academy Awards.

Velvet looks good on The Rock.

Michael Strahan

Michael Strahan ditched the bowtie for a sleek tie.

The subtle color variation worked for the ABC host.

Riz Ahmed

Riz Ahmed hit the carpet in bright blue.

The Night Of actor wasn't our favorite, but we applaud the effort for something different.

Terrence Howard

We imagine this printed smoking jacket is his standard attire.
