Rick Pitino had to be held back from furiously confronting a UNC fan

Louisville went into the locker room down 3 to North Carolina at halftime on Wednesday night, and Rick Pitino was not pleased.

It just didn’t appear to have anything to do with the game.

Sports Illustrated NFL writer Jonathan Jones was in attendance at the Dean Smith Center and captured video of a furious confrontation involving Pitino and a UNC fan. The Louisville head coach had to be physically restrained and guided through the tunnel.

It was unclear what was said to Pitino, but when Louisville returned for the second half, police officers walked along with them.

This incident near the UNC student section came one day after Kentucky coach John Calipari walked out of an interview amid heckling chants from the Mizzou student section.

Update:

After the game, Pitino called the fan a “coward,” and said what bothered him about this was that it was an adult (not a student).

Per the Associated Press, North Carolina said that the fan was ejected.
