Samsung will host an event where it is likely they will unveil the Galaxy S8 smartphone — the first major new phone since the massive recall of its Galaxy Note 7 — on March 29.

The event will take place in New York City, according to invitations sent Sunday. The invite features what looks like the silhouette of a smartphone with the words "unbox your phone."

Last week, a leak of smartphone specs seems to have revealed what features could appear on the Galaxy S8. They include a 6-inch touchscreen, 12-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front camera, and iris scanner.

The S8 marks the first significant smartphone launch for Samsung since the Galaxy Note 7, which was discontinued after several owners reported the device catching fire or exploding. The problems stemmed from the Note 7's lithium ion battery.
