Ralph Lauren's runway show was straight outta Mar-a-Lago
Don't count Ralph Lauren among the many designers making anti-Trump statements at New York Fashion Week.
After all, the quintessential American brand is a proven favorite of the Trump women, with Melania wearing a sky-blue custom Ralph Lauren ensemble on Inauguration Day. He's also a go-to for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who wore another one of his white suits to the Capitol for Trump's swearing in.
On Wednesday, Lauren's Madison Avenue women's store was transformed into a secret garden for the designer's fashion week presentation, with flowers lining the walls as Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid and a parade of other models presented a collection fit for the ballrooms and beaches of Mar-a-Lago.
Lauren refrained from sending any politically-charged garments down the runway, which was largely devoted to golden beachwear and billowing gowns with a Saharan vibe. With the Trumps firmly in the designer's corner, it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine Ivanka or Melania wearing items from his latest collection, particularly the silky formalwear.
Ivanka Trump's silver Carolina Herrera gown she infamously showed off on Instagram wasn't far from the metallic creations Lauren sent down the runway.
And Lauren's python-printed accessories, oversized gold jewelry and summery sand-colored leisurewear felt vaguely Floridian, an unintentional homage to America's golden elevator-riding first family and their Palm Beach "Winter White House."
Tiffany Trump, who was spotted at several smaller NYFW events, was not in attendance.
The collection is Lauren's second to be available for purchase immediately, on the brand's website and at the Madison Avenue store Thursday.
