The 2,052-passenger Carnival Sensation.

Make that three Carnival ships that have gotten a makeover since the start of the year.

The 23-year-old Carnival Sensation received more than half a dozen new venues during a two-week overhaul in the Bahamas that ended this week.

The upgrades to the 2,052-passenger vessel included the addition of Guy’s Burger Joint, a poolside burger outlet developed in partnership with the Food Network's Guy Fieri that has been rolling out across the Carnival fleet.

Also new is BlueIguana Cantina, a poolside Mexican eatery that offers burritos and tacos on home-made tortillas and an extensive toppings and salsa bar. It's a no-extra-charge outlet that also has been debuting across the Carnival fleet.

Other additions include the interior Alchemy Bar, a pharmacy-themed lounge where mixologists “prescribe” colorful concoctions; BlueIguana Tequila Bar, a Mexican-themed, pool-side bar serving frozen drinks and beer; candy and gift shop Cherry on Top; and Camp Ocean, a play area for kids ages two to 11.

Carnival is the midst of a multi-year, $500 million-plus upgrade program that is bringing these venues and others to many of its 25 vessels. In just the past month, two other Carnival ships — Carnival Dream and Carnival Ecstasy — have emerged from similar makeovers.

The overhaul of Sensation took place at the Grand Bahama Shipyard on Grand Bahama Island.

Unveiled in 1993, Sensation is one of Carnival's oldest ships. It sails four- and five-night voyages to the Bahamas and Caribbean out of Miami.
