Plenty of tickets remain for Daytona 500

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Hundreds of seats remain for Sunday’s Daytona 500 through the track’s website, although that’s nothing like the inventory on the secondary ticket market.

There were more than 6,500 tickets listed on those websites as of Friday afternoon, the most available for purchase so close to the race since TicketIQ began tracking NASCAR’s season-opening contest in 2010.

Average prices have dropped 19% over the last three days to $209, according to TicketIQ.

"The fact that there's more inventory available this year than in years past means that it will be cheaper than ever to see this historic event," TicketIQ spokesperson Jesse Lawrence said

The get-in price, the cheapest seat available, on StubHub was $93, $2 less than the least-expensive face value ticket for the race. The most expensive tickets on the site were $550 for seats on the start/finish line.

The prices for tickets sold on StubHub range from $75 to $750 for this year’s race, a range that is about 25% lower than the final average sale prices a year ago.

“We’ve seen a lot more listings on StubHub for the Daytona 500 this year which has made it more of a buyer’s market,” StubHub spokesperson Cameron Papp said.

This is the second Daytona 500 since the track underwent $400 million in the “reimagining” of Daytona International Speedway, which included the installation of 101,500 wider seats and several other renovations aimed at improving the fan experience. The track also removed about 45,000 seats during the renovation.

The improvements created a bump in attendance and a boost of 17% in the average sale price for the race on tickets sold on StubHub from the 2015 Daytona 500.
