Remember Jimmer? The ex-college star scored 73 points in a game in China
Jimmer Fredette was a bust in the NBA after being selected No. 10 overall, but China is a different story.
The former BYU star guard, now No. 32 for the Shanghai Sharks, erupted for 73 points Sunday night in a double-overtime defeat to the Zhejiang Guangsha Lions in a Chinese Basketball Association contest. It's the fourth-most points scored in a single game in CBA history.
The scoring outburst came on 25 of 49 shooting (13 for 13 from the free-throw line), with 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Fredette shot 10 of 18 from the 3-point line.
This is Fredette's first season in China after spending most of last season in the NBA Development League with the Westchester Knicks (he was named the All-Star Game MVP). The 27-year-old also had stints with the New York Knicks, Sacramento Kings, Chicago Bulls and New Orleans Pelicans.
Fredette is averaging 36 points per game this season for the Sharks and also won the CBA's 3-point contest. Will his play lead to another opportunity in the NBA? Perhaps. But either way, he's making the most of his time in Asia.
