Barrett-Jackson, other car events flood Arizona

PHOENIX -- For car collectors and enthusiasts, January is one of the busiest times of the year, with tons of collector car events across metro Phoenix.

The Shelby Cobra 427 Super Snake sells for   $4,700,000  Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015 at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Ariz.

From Jan. 14 to 22, thousands of hot rods, pre-war classics, sports cars and other collectibles will be on display. And if you’re lucky enough to have the money, you can bid on one of the many cars up for auction.

Here are six collector car events in Phoenix and Scottsdale:

Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction

Arizona's largest collector car auction celebrates 46 years. This year, cars from Justin Bieber, Steven Tyler and Dale Earnhardt Jr. will hit the auction block. Other featured vehicles include a 1964 Aston Martin DB5, 1970 Plymouth Superbird, 1964 Cheetah by Bill Thomas Race Cars, 1965 Shelby Mustang GT350, 1972 Plymouth Barracuda Mattel Hot Wheels "Snake II" Funny Car and a 1960 Chevrolet Engineering Research Vehicle (CERV 1). The event also features an automobilia auction, polo matches, Arabian horse showcase, demonstrations from car experts and an exhibitor pavilion.

Arizona Concours d’Elegance

Exceptional and unique cars are the stars of this exclusive show. This year's highlights are Lincolns from the classic era, Coachwork by Vignale, and the cars of Ettore and Jean Bugatti. On Saturday, car enthusiasts can sit in on three panel discussions: Phoenix Automotive Press Association Auction Week Preview, Pioneer Woman in Racing, and the Passion Driving Race Team Owners. Saturday is the main event, with 90 automobiles on display, vying for awards including the coveted Best in Show. On Monday, car entrants are taken on a special tour of private collections and scenic areas. Tour d'Elegance Cool Cars & Live Music will feature the Concours entrants on display at Scottsdale Waterfront's South Canal Bridge from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Russo and Steele Collector Automobile Auction

Arizona's second-largest collector car auction moves to Salt River Fields this year. Over the course of five days, more than 800 classic European sports, American muscle and custom cars will be auctioned off in the signature "Auction in the Round" format. Featured cars at the event include a 1954 Mercedes 300 S Cabriolet A Convertible and a 1967 Jaguar E-Type Roadster. Russo and Steele is also know as a destination for collectors of vintage machinery.

 

 

RM Auctions Friday Night

Last year, RM Auction set the Arizona record for highest car-auction price, reeling in $9.9 million for a rare 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster. The previous year's record was also set at this auction. While the auction itself is open to registered bidders only, there are preview times that are open to the public, so you'll want to make it a point to stop by and check out the cars if you want to see some remarkable beauties. This year, featured lots include a 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB/6C by Scaglietti, 1965 Aston Martin DB5, 1961 Ferrari 400 Superamerica SWB Coupe Aerodinamico by Pininfarina and 1971 Lamborghini Miura P400 SV by Bertone.

Gooding & Co.: The Scottsdale Auctions

This auction has a four-day viewing showcase before the bidding commences at Scottsdale Fashion Square. Lots include a 1925 Bugatti Type 35 Grand Prix, 1964 Aston Martin DB5, 1988 Porsche 959 Komfort, 1936 Squire 1 1/2 Litre Tourer and 1932 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Series V Grand Sport Roadster.

Silver Auctions

This show is know for more affordable collector cars and a relaxed environment. Silver features both vehicles and memorabilia. The event has been in metro Phoenix since 1992, and deems itself as offering "real buyers and sellers, real cars and real deals."
