Bob Seger marks 1-year anniversary of Frey's death with 'Glenn Song'
A heartfelt note of remembrance, from one Michigan music icon to another: Bob Seger has recorded a new tribute to his late friend and collaborator Glenn Frey.
Glenn Song was released Wednesday morning on the one-year anniversary of Frey's death: The track, recorded by Seger in Nashville, can be heard or downloaded for free at his site: Glenn Song.
Seger and Frey were close friends and collaborators for decades, going back to their days on the '60s Detroit music scene, where the budding singer-songwriters enthusiastically exchanged ideas and shared knowledge before emerging as household names — Seger as a solo artist, Frey with the Eagles. From Frey's backing contribution on Seger's 1968 hit Ramblin' Gamblin' Man onward, their careers remained intertwined, including Seger's writing contribution on the Eagles' Heartache Tonight and Frey's backup vocals on Against the Wind.
Appreciation: Glenn Frey led Eagles' easy sound
"He was a cheerleader for me," Seger told the Free Press in an emotional interview the night of Frey's death. "He was always a positive influence for me, throughout my career.”
Seger drew rave reviews last month for his performance of Heartache Tonight at the Kennedy Center Honors, where he helped honor Frey and the Eagles for an audience that included President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama.
