Fans mourned Yordano Ventura’s death with Royals players outside Kauffman Stadium

The baseball world was shaken Sunday by the tragic death of Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura. The 25-year-old pitcher died in a car crash in his native Dominican Republic.

Shortly after news of the death was confirmed, Royals fans made their way to Kauffman Stadium to form a spontaneous memorial for Ventura. Royals players Danny Duffy and Christian Colon also showed up to Kauffman Stadium to mourn the loss of their teammate and friend. Royals fans were quick to offer their condolences.

Colon, the hero of the Royals’ title-clinching Game 5 win in 2015, was particularly close with Ventura. He posted a heartfelt letter to Ventura on Twitter on Sunday.

It was an understandably emotional scene on Sunday.
