Weather for Trump's Inauguration Day will be damp, dreary

Dank, damp, dreary, drizzly and drab: Friday will be cloudy and rainy for Donald Trump's inauguration in Washington, D.C.

There is an 89% chance of rain at noon, the moment when Trump is scheduled to be sworn in as the 45th president of the United States at the U.S. Capitol, the National Weather Service said

Those heading to the event early could find some dry spots before rain moves in for much of the day, said AccuWeather meteorologist Kyle Brown. The rain should taper off by late afternoon, the weather service said.

The temperature should be around 45 degrees at noon, the weather service, AccuWeather and the Weather Channel all predict. It will remain in the 40s through the afternoon and early evening.

Wind won't be a factor, with speeds of only 6 to 7 mph forecast throughout the day.

“Those in attendance Friday will be able to ditch the heavy winter coats, but rain jackets and umbrellas will be essential,” said Brown.

Small collapsible umbrellas will now be allowed on the parade route and in non-ticketed areas of the National Mall, the National Park Service tweeted. No long, non-collapsible umbrellas are permitted.

While on the cooler side, the temperature Friday will still be a few degrees warmer than normal. The average temperature at noon on Jan. 20 in Washington is around 37 degrees, the weather service said.

The warmest January Inauguration Day was President Ronald Reagan's first one in 1981, when the temperature hit 55 degrees at noon. The rainiest was in 1937 for President Franklin D. Roosevelt's second inauguration when 1.77 inches of rain fell.

Saturday will be mainly dry for the Women's March on Washington, though cloudy skies will continue, the weather service said. Temperatures should be mild, with highs in the low to mid 50s.
