Carrie Fisher's 5 best screen roles beyond Princess Leia

Carly Mallenbaum
USA TODAY

The late Carrie Fisher will forever be associated with her fearless Star Wars princess Leia Organa. "She’s me and I'm her and it’s kind of a Möbius strip," the actress told USA TODAY last year of her close relationship with the role. "I carry her around and I know her better than anybody else and we wear the same clothes a lot of times. She's mine."

Appreciation: Carrie Fisher will forever be 'Star Wars' royalty

But Leia certainly isn't the only character Fisher brought to life onscreen.

Here are five of Fisher's film and TV roles (including a cameo) that showed off her comedic chops in this galaxy:

1. The Blues Brothers (1980)

Fisher played the gun-toting, maniac ex-girlfriend of John Belushi's "Joliet" Jake. This laugh-out-loud role had her hunting down the Blues Brothers and giving an amazing speech about being left at the altar ... before being seduced by Jake.

On Tuesday, co-star Dan Aykroyd tweeted about his "kind and generous Blues Sister."

2. When Harry Met Sally ... (1989)

As Marie, the spunky best friend of Meg Ryan's Sally, Fisher had a Rolodex filled with men's names and responded to the news of Sally's breakup with, "You mean Joe's available?"

3. Catastrophe (2015)

Fisher was the foul-mouthed Mia, mother of Rob (Rob Delaney) in the Amazon comedy. She called her son, who lived in London, from America. Sometimes at 4 a.m. her time. Many times to give unsolicited advice.

Co-star Sharon Horgan wrote on Instagram that Fisher "was the most generous, fun, gifted, smart, kind, funny funny funny person I've ever met."

4. 30 Rock (2007)

Fisher guest-starred on the second season of the NBC sitcom as Rosemary, a feminist comedy writer invited by Tina Fey's Liz Lemon invites to write for TGS. It turns out that Rosemary's ideas are too controversial for Liz's show. "I broke barriers for you!" Rosemary exclaims, scaring Liz away and winking at TV viewers.

Fey reacted to Fisher's passing with this statement: "Carrie Fisher meant a lot to me. Like many women my age, Princess Leia occupies about sixty percent of my brain at any given time. But Carrie’s honest writing and her razor-sharp wit were an even greater gift. I feel so lucky that I got to meet her. I’m very sad she is gone.”

5. Sex and the City (2000)

(Warning: Clip contains foul language)

On Season 3 of HBO's Sex and the City, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) met Carrie Fisher, who played herself in a cameo. How'd the two meet? Well, Bradshaw slept with Fisher's assistant, played by Vince Vaughn, and Fisher came home early and caught the two in bed. "I told you, no prostitutes when you're house-sitting!" Fisher yell

SJP remembered Fisher with a post on Instagram.
