'Guitgun' gits 'er done for Indiana blues musician

INDIANAPOLIS — The Rev. Peyton has shotgun, will trade riffs.

In online footage hailed by a YouTube user as "America summed up in one video," Indiana musician Josh Peyton demonstrates the dual functions of his new guitar that's also an operational shotgun.

Billed as a "Guitgun," the instrument/firearm features three strings for the type of slide-blues playing that's allowed Peyton and his Brown County, Ind.-based Big Damn Band to travel the world playing concerts since 2006.

In the outdoor video posted Sunday, Peyton plays the Guitgun for 15 seconds before pausing to fire a direct hit into a target seen atop a tree stump. Wearing a trapper hat and a flannel shirt, the bushy-bearded Hamilton County native resumes playing and shares a hearty laugh at the video's conclusion.

The Guitgun is described as Peyton's concept executed by fellow Hoosier Bryan Fleming, who added strings to the shotgun and designed the pickup to aid in amplification.

Seemingly destined for viral-video glory, the video has racked up 2.8 million views at Facebook and more than 570,000 at YouTube.

In previous videos, Peyton played 18 different instruments during a rendition of the song John Henry and he played a solo instrumental version of This Land is Your Land following this year's presidential election.
